A New "Ceil"ing

As part of Sure Foundation’s ongoing pursuit to create beautiful spaces in joyful praise to God, the Leadership Team is happy to announce that our sanctuary will be getting a mural on the ceiling to enhance our worship experience. The "Ceil" mural, which will appear as though the sanctuary opens to the sky, is a component of the original design for the sanctuary. ("El Cielo" is the Spanish word for sky.)

During the initial planning for Sure Foundation's spaces in Queens, members commented about how they wanted to feel "refreshed" and "inspired" when they came to worship. The mural will enliven the intimate space and make it feel more open. One of our members, artist Charis Carmichael Braun, will be creating the mural in Fall 2011. Please invite your friends to see this exciting project come to life!

Sure Foundation Featured on Single Fare


Recently, Sure Foundation Lutheran Church was featured in a blog post by the creators of the art show Single Fare: A Show of Small Works on Used Metrocards.
As part of our 10th Anniversary Celebration, Sure Foundation created a "Fellowship Mosaic" artwork as a celebration of the faith, community, and life of Sure Foundation. SFLC member Charis Carmichael Braun and artist friends Bill Bukowski, Jason Jaspersen and Karen Goetzinger have artwork in both the Fellowship Mosaic and the Single Fare exhibition. The Fellowship Artwork is available for viewing throughout the day during regular office hours or worship times. Come see it!

SFLC 10th Anniversary

On the first Sunday of October, in the year 2000, Sure Foundation held its first organized worship service in an apartment building in Astoria, NY. Twelve people attended the worship service and one dog. As the people gathered in that small apartment, there were hopes, dreams, and faith in our Savior.

God has blessed the ministries of Sure Foundation in his time and in his way over the past 10 years. Our hearts are so thankful for all that our God has done to preserve us in faith, life, and doctrine.

Over the next month, we will celebrate our 10 years of bringing the pure gospel to New York City and in particular, to Woodside, Queens. We will celebrate by remembering those teachings that are distinctly Lutheran: the "solas" of the Lutheran reformation.

Sunday Service and Bible Study Themes:

  • September 12: By Grace Alone (Sola Gratia)
  • September 19: By Faith Alone  (Sola Fide)
  • September 26: By Scripture Alone (Sola Scriptura)
  •      October 3: By Christ Alone (Solus Christus)

Our worship service on October 3 will be the culmination of our 10th Anniversary celebrations. One of the founding pastors, Rev. Aaron Robinson, will be our guest preacher at a bilingual (Español/English) worship service at 10:30am followed by a reception with light refreshments, and a short slideshow presentation of SFLC's history. We will also unveil our finished "Fellowship Artwork" mosaic.
